Lehman Brothers

Oonagh McDonald

Manchester University Press

This chapter will give an account of the weekend in September, 2008. It will provide a description of that weekend, but the focus will be on the reasons provided by Henry Paulson, Treasury Secretary at the time, Timothy Geithner, then President of the New York Federal Reserve Bank and others for not bailing Lehman out. Evidence given to Congressional Committees and the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission will be taken into account. Interviews with some of the players will also be recorded and some of the conspiracy theories will be briefly rejected. The shock waves of the collapse of Lehman reverberated around the world.
