The oratory of Tony Blair
The oratory of Tony Blair
This chapter provides a critical analysis of Tony Blair’s oratory. It argues that his party leadership can be divided into three distinct oratorical phases; as opposition leader; as Prime Minister before 2003; and as Prime Minister after 2003. The chapter considers the rhetorical devices Blair used with different audiences. It asks, how did Blair’s oratory differ and what impact did it have on both the Labour party and his leadership? Did Blair create a rhetorical style that set him apart from previous Labour leaders and create a new standard against which future leaders would be judged?
