This chapter presents Umberto Barbaro's article ‘Lukács: the film and technique’. It is a commentary on the published correspondence between Georg Lukács and István Mészáros in which they discussed the aesthetic problems of the cinema. The chapter also presents Lukács' response to the article in which he clarified fundamental issues relating to technique and art.
