This chapter argues that it is essential to study cheap print in its urban context, and particularly its dissemination in various forms in the streets and squares of Venice. It suggests that the closely-woven fabric of the city acted as a kind of agent in the dissemination of texts, which moved fluidly through different spaces and media. It explores the established topography of book distribution before the press, prior to considering where printers and booksellers began to set themselves up. It then surveys the street trade in print, which overlapped with the geography of the shops as well as other urban itineraries. It also considers how print was encountered, seen and heard on Venetian streets - read aloud, stuck up, announced or sung - and thus how Venetians became acculturated to print in the course of the sixteenth century.
